FAQs

What is reportage photography?

It’s the modern style of photography that is unposed and more natural than the stiff traditional style. It’s a way of capturing the essence of your day rather than setting it.

Do you still take formal group shots?

Definitely. I prefer these to be arranged but not posed and stiff.

Do our photos come with an album?

No. The nature of my photography means I take a lot of photos. As a result, I’ve developed packages based on prints only. I give you every successful print taken and you can edit them for your album as you see fit. I’ve also noticed over the past few years many couples want to choose their own album and arrange the photos in their own manner. Prints are given in a presentation photo box for safekeeping.

Do you take colour or black and white?

It’s your choice. Normally couples request 70% colour and 30% black and white.

Will you meet us before the wedding day?

Again, it’s completely up to you, distance permitting I am more than happy to meet in person and get to know each other a little better and go through the details of the day. Or if you’d rather we can do all of this over the phone.

What equipment do you use?

I use professional Nikon cameras. I usually bring two cameras, one with black and white film and one with colour.

Do you have backup equipment?

Absolutely, I wouldn’t like to risk it for your sake or mine!

Is it always you who attends the wedding?

Yes. For larger weddings I may also bring an assistant.

Do you photograph more than one wedding per day?

No, once you have booked me I am all yours.

What happens when we make a booking?

You will be invoiced for 50% of the cost as a deposit and invoiced two weeks prior to your wedding date for the remaining 50%. You are also asked to sign and return the booking form/contract. Upon receipt of your deposit the booking is confirmed. We can also arrange a date to meet up and go through the details of the day.

When is the best time for the photographer to arrive?

If requested I usually arrive at least an hour before the bride leaves her house to photograph the preparations, and then head on to the ceremony venue to capture the guests arriving and the groom and best man waiting.

How long should we allocate for photography throughout the day?

I like to get the group shots done as quickly as possible, these are usually done after the service and take around 20 minutes. Allocating 30 minutes after the service before you move on is safe as it also give you time for your guests to kiss and congratulate you. At some point in the day I shall also grab you both for 10 minutes alone to take some of you together.

Will we need to feed you on the day?

If you have booked the platinum package (whole day and evening) a small offering left in the kitchen is appreciated but not expected! I’m more than happy to bring my own.

How many photographs do you take?

There is no set number (anywhere from 200-400 depending on your package) but it is far in excess of the number of photos quoted in the prices. Often it depends on the opportunities presented and the amount of light and time. I edit out any pictures with eyes closed or missed moments and you receive all the remaining shots taken. Often there are duplicates which allows you to give them away to family or guests.

How long after the wedding until we see our photos?

You should receive your photos in three weeks, often less. Where possible, I like to have them with you by the time you return from honeymoon.

Can we see our photos first and then decide if we want to order a CD or DVD?

No problem. Production and delivery will take three weeks from the time of ordering.

What happens if we cancel our wedding?

If you have to cancel, after a period of 14 days from the date of signing the contract, as compensation for loss of income for Emma Baxter Photography, the following charges apply as a percentage of the total fee due.

(Number of days before the wedding)
60 days or less - 100%
61- 90 days - 75%
91-120 days - 50%.

What happens if we have to postpone our wedding?

Subject to my availability all money paid may be applied to the new wedding. In this case, the total fees chargeable shall be the fee which applies at that time. In the event of me taking another wedding booking for your cancelled or postponed date a full unconditional refund of your deposit and monies paid will be made.

What happens if you get sick or have to cancel or if something goes wrong?

In the unlikely event of total photographic failure, injury or sickness beyond my control, you will be liable for a full refund.

Do you work nationwide?

Yes, I work anywhere in the mainland U.K.
